Ive been trying to potty train my 3 y/o daughter the last week or so and I was rewarding her with a piece of candy everytime she made in her potty.  The timing actually worked out really well b/c i had tons of candy in the house from all our purim shaloch manos.  It started out by me rewarding her with a few jelly beans, then some licorise, then some chocolate, etc.  Now, every time she makes in her potty she says “what am i gonna get?” I hope I havent created a monster who thinks shes gonna get a treat every time she makes until shes like 20 y/o but for now its working and its getting rid of all my extra purim candy in time for Pesach.  Im going through tons of the candy, mostly b/c I give my other daughter (almost 6y/o) a reward too and occasionally, I reward my self with candy too!!! Let face it, potty training aint easy!

I threw a party for a friend over the summer and tried making cake lolipops.  I used a brownie mix and they came out very cute.  After I made the mixture, i formed them into balls and froze them til they got hard.  I then melted chocolate, dipped the lolipop stick into the chocolate and then stuck that into the brownie ball.  I then dripped the ball into the chocolate and then into sprinkles.  While most of them came out good, some of them kept falling apart when i was trying to dip them into the chocolate.


A few months ago, I came across a cookbook that showed me how to make the balls.  After you make any cake you want, crumble it up into a bowl and add about 1 cup store bought frosting.  Like make a chocolate cake and mix it with chocolate frosting or whatever your taste is.  after you make this cake paste, roll them into balls and freeze.  this helps them keep their shape.  the frosting is like the glue.  then you follow the same directions as above.  dipping the stick into chocolate and then into the ball and then dipping the ball into chocolate and then any coating you wish.

I just had an idea i saw on this site.  there is an image of  a cake pop in the shape of an apple, with a pretzel stem and fondant leaf. How cute would it be to give these as rosh Hashana treats.  you can either give a few wrapped with a bow to teachers or serve them at your meal.  kids would love this.  Not sure yet how to make red pareve chocolate.  I know the candy melts at the craft store are great, but they are dairy.

Just read an article that Hersheys chocolate, the maker of Reese’s, Kit Kat, Hershey’s Kisses and Twizzlers cited increased costs for raw materials, fuel, utilities and transportation.


I was looking through my Pesach cookbook for some homemade dessert ideas so I dont have to spend a ton of money on something that tastes like dirt.  I came across a truffles recipe that seems to be delicious and non passover tasting too!  I came across Chocolate Truffles…yum right!  Heres the recipe (you can make it Dairy or Pareve):

12 oz good quality semi sweet or bitter sweet  chocolate

2/3 cup heavy cream or non dairy whipping cream

2 tablespoons Dutch cocoa powder

2 tablespoons confectioners sugar (powdered sugar)

3 tablespoons finely chopped unsalted nuts…like pistachios, almonds or hazelnuts

Directions: Finely chop chocolate and put in med. bowl.  pour cream in small heavy sauce pan.  bring to rolling boil over med heat. pour cream over chocolate.gently stir to melt chocolate. do not whisk or stir too much. cover and chill about 2 hours.

Line baking sheet with parchment or waxed paper.  with melon baller or spoon, make small balls- dont need to be perfectly round yet, you will reroll them when you coat them in coating of you choice.  Put in freezer for 20 mins.

set up 3 bowls each with some confectioners sugar, cocoa and nuts.  roll balls in coating of your choice and reshape them into perfect balls.  Store in air tight container in fridge.  Can be make 10 days ahead!!!! makes about 30-36 truffles.

You can play around with the coatings, like using coconut or Kosher LPesach sprinkles.

This is super easy and my mouth is already water.  I know Im going to make at least (if not more) 2 batches of them!

Passover is coming up in a few weeks and almost all the stores are stocked with their passover foods.  I feel most store raise their prices on nearly everything especially their chocolates.  Bartons candies are a fortune!  So Im trying to think of ways that I can make my own.

Some of my ideas are as follows.  Melt chocolate in a bowl.  Any kind of chocolate (kosher for passover), the cheaper (real) chocolate the better, either choc. chips or a baking bar, milk choc, whatever.  throw in a ton of raisins, almonds, nuts of any kind. If the choco. is too thick, add a drop of marg. Mix melted choc. fruit/nuts and then scoop them out to drip off access chocolate.  lay them flat on parchment paper to dry.  Now youve got yourself some chocolaty snacks much cheaper then the stores sell.   You could also do this with broken pieces of matza instead of fruit or nuts.

Another idea is making homemade chocolate lolipops.  They sell like 5 choc. pops for like $5 which is CRAZY. This project could even be done by the kids with adult help Buy any shape candy mold, which you can buy at craft stores for very inexpensive (especially if you use an in store coupon from places like Michaels). Dont forget to buy the lolipop sticks too. Melt any kind of chocolate- dark/milk, whatever you prefer.  Add a drop of marg. if you think its too thick.  Pour into candy/pop molds (greasing the molds with Kosher for Passover oil spray before may be necessary) and let harden for about 30 minutes or put in the fridge for about 15 minutes.  You can make many many more pops for much cheaper than they cost.  And as we all know, kids could eat a whole box very easily so this is a great and inexpensive.

Marshmellows are another great treat on Passover.  Eat them plain or roast them over a fire.  YUM!

Im still looking into other ideas for making homemade treats KLP.  Will keep you posted!

The other day my husband bought me a wonderful surprise.  He bought my favorite chocolate…Godiva .  He didnt just buy a small box that I could easily eat in 5 seconds, he bought a 36 piece set.  I had self control and didnt open the box the right away.  I wanted to savor every bite.  Let me tell you, it was worth it.  Each bite is heaven.  I made sure to hide the box so my kids do not get a hold of it.  They love Godiva just as much as I do.  My favorites are the praline, ganaches and truffles.

One of my favorite parts of Godiva is they give you a a little picture guide of what each chocolate is.  There is no more guessing or biting into one flavor I might not like…which is usually the jelly/fruit ones.  I always give those to my husband who’s happy to get something, because usually there isnt anything left after I open it :)

I am so thankful that the majority of their truffles are kosher.  Whenever I get their catalogs in the mail, I always check to see if they added any new products to their kosher list. None of their baked goods, like cupcakes are kosher.  I could only imagine how amazing they are.

The only down side is that they are not cheap.  You can sometimes find great deals after major holidays like Valentines.
